Overview
A passionate trial lawyer, tenacious investigator, and experienced former federal prosecutor, Sean P. Murphy brings over a decade of experience as a litigating attorney to the Environmental department of Napoli Shkolnik. His practice focuses on representing clients who have been harmed by environmental contaminants, including public and private water suppliers that have been forced to incur remediation and treatment costs due to the presence of such contaminants in their water systems.
Prior to turning to private practice, Sean was selected from a nationwide pool of Assistant U.S. Attorneys to help lead the DOJ’s response to a high-profile criminal event, an investigation that quickly became one of the largest in the department’s history. His participation involved directing the efforts to identify and hold accountable all those that violently assaulted police officers, organizing and providing extensive electronic discovery, trial practice, briefing of novel statutory and constitutional issues, close collaboration with other Department of Justice components, and litigation in district court and the D.C. Circuit.
During his time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Puerto Rico, Sean investigated and prosecuted everything from complex transnational drug and money laundering operations under federal and international maritime law to disrupting and dismantling local drug and firearm trafficking operations, working closely with law enforcement partners from the FBI, DEA, HSI, CBP, ATF, and other international law enforcement partners. Sean is also experienced in appellate advocacy, having represented the United States in oral arguments before the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining the DOJ, Sean is proud to have served the people of the State of New York as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx. There he investigated and prosecuted violent crime, drug trafficking, and firearms offenses. It was a heavy docket, and he gained significant trial experience and experience briefing and arguing dispositive motions.
The most rewarding part of his work is seeking justice on behalf of victims that have been harmed or wronged. Sean is excited to bring his passion for justice to the important environmental justice being pursued by the skilled and unrivaled team at Napoli Shkolnik.
